INTRODUCTION OF THE BREAST

Woman breast is the symbol of effeminacy and motherhood, thus it has a sexual and aesthetic meaning as well. To determine the ideal breast shape and breast size is very difficult. This is influenced by the era, in which we are living and the social and cultural background. The woman breast is continuously changing by the time. It has different shape and structure during the adolescence, around the age 20 and 30, and after the climax as well.
With healthy lifestyle the flexibility of the breast skin can be preserved for longer time. Everything which is harmful for the woman’s beauty: the unhealthy nutrition, smoking, excessive consumption of coffee and alcohol, hot bathes, excessive sun-bathing and using of solarium decreases the flexibility of the skin, thus it can cause the sagging of the breasts. Swimming -since it developes the muscles of the back and the pectoral muscle- has a beneficial effect on the shape of the breasts. During weight loss the amount of fat tissue reduces in the body, thus in the breasts as well. In the case of bigger amount of weight loss the breast tissue reduces significantly and its shape will change infavourable. In these situations it is especially important to care the skin of the breast and wear bra.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BREAST

After the age of ten the breasts start developing. First the areola will outrise with the nipples, then the breast will enlarge as well. Later the areola will slick into the level of the breasts. The fully-developed breast will present in 2-3 years. Usually the development of the two breasts is not simultaneously and at the end of the development there can be some changes in the size of them.

LOCATION AND SHAPE

The breasts are located in the chest. The convexity of the chest causes that the two axles of the breast evade to the sides. There are no muscles which could inhibit the sagging of the breasts. With exercising only the muscles under the breasts can be developed. The stretching of the skin and the ligaments of the connective tissue can be decelerated only by wearing bra.
The upper part of the breast is flatter, the lower part is more rounded. The areola and the nipple are located in the middle of the breasts. The size, the shape and the flexibility of the breasts are determined by the amount of the glandular, the fat and the connective tissue. The proportion of these three components gives personal appearance to the woman breast. Woman breasts are never similar, their size, shape can be different in smaller or bigger measure. The difference can be increased by weight gain and breast-feeding. The breast does not have own muscle. Its shape and location are ensured by the skin and the connective tissue. The breasts are meshed by inflexible filaments of the connective tissue, which can be loosened by aging. The breasts will sag because of the effect of gravity. You can prevent this by wearing bra, which is recommended to use from the end of the adolescence. You have to chose the bra as it adapts to the size and shape of the breasts. It has to be comfortable but not tight and it has to hold the breasts. It is especially important to wear bra during exercising, pregnancy, breast-feeding, periods and weight loss.
The function of mammary glands is under hormonal influence from the adolescence till the climacteric. The decrease or the lack of sexual hormon levels causes the atrophy of the mammary glands and the fat tissue after the menopause. The amount of the fat tissue is increasing by aging at the expense of the glands.

PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING

During pregnancy and breast-feeding the size of the breasts can significantly increase because of the excessive swelling of the glandular tissue. Several times the skin is not capable to follow the fast growth of the breasts, and on their surface striae will be presented. After breast-feeding the structure of the breast will transform. The glandular tissue will decrease, and fat tissue will be presented in its place. This changes are totally individual and even not always the same in the two breasts. To keep the consistence of the breasts it is recommended to wear special breast-feeding bra and groom the skin of the breasts with special ointments.

EXAMINATION OF THE BREAST

The self-examination of the breasts is recommended to perform directly after the periods. During the periods and a few days after that the blood level of the two main hormones (oestrogen and progesterone) is low, thus the swelling of the breasts ceases, the glands are contracted.

This time is the most suitable to examine the breasts, since the breasts are well-palpable, and are not sensitive. Every months perform the self-examination in this part of the period! The parts of the examination are inspection and palpation.

According to the age other- imaging methods- examinations can be necessary. Above the age of 45 mammography screening is necessary to be performed in every 2 years. The highest diagnostic security of the mammography is the most optimal after the age of 40, thus in this age there are more fat tissue than other components in the breasts. The smaller ray absorption of fat tissue ensures the higher security of the dissociation of healthy and pathological parts. The diagnostic value of mammography in the case of younger women (under the age of 30) is limited. In this age the amount of glandular tissue is higher, thus ultrasonography is recommended to be performed.
